Anna B. Sutton was born and raised in Nashville, TN. She received her BFA from the Appalachian Center for Craft at TN Tech and her MFA from UNC Wilmington. She received a MEd in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at North Carolina State and works as a therapist.

Her debut collection, Savage Flower, was the winner of the 2019 St. Lawrence Book Prize and will be published by Black Lawrence Press in July 2021. Individual poems have appeared in Indiana Review, Copper Nickel, Los Angeles Review, Booth, and other journals.

In 2013, she received a James Merrill Fellowship from Vermont Studio Center. A frequent instructor at The Porch in Nashville, TN, she teaches workshops on poetry, ethical critique, and writing therapy, among other topics. She has attended Sewanee Writers Conference, Tin House Writers Workshop, and presented on fabulist fiction at the Association of Writers and Writing Program’s 50th Anniversary Conference in Washington, D.C.

Anna currently works in mental health care. Previously, she was the Vice President of John F. Blair, Publisher in Winston-Salem, where she also served as an editor and designer. She has worked for literary nonprofits Humanities Tennessee, Lookout Books, One Pause Poetry, Hub City Writers’ Project, Writers in Action, Young Writers Workshop at UNCW, and the Tennessee Young Writers Workshop. In 204, she helped co-found The Porch. She has volunteered as an editor or reader for numerous literary magazines, including Dialogist, EcotoneChautauqua, Gigantic Sequins, and Atlantis
